If you are the parent or guardian of a minor child in Connecticut, you know that horrible feeling you get when you hear about a child being injured or killed. When those things involve products that were perhaps defective or unsafe in some way, your feelings may involve anger as well as sadness and grief. The companies that manufacture products designed for use on or by children and babies have a responsibility to deliver safe products.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission tracks information about how many infants and children are injured or die every year in incidents involving products made for them. These may include anything from a toy to an article of clothing or bedding and more. In 2015, the deaths of 10 children under the age of 13 were associated with some type of toy. More than 254,000 other children were hurt by toys.

Of the children injured in incidents involving toys, almost 89,000 were four years old or younger. injuries for close to 176,000 children ages 11 and younger are said to have involved a toy in some manner. Consumers are able to report unsafe products to the government online, via email, via phone and via regular mail and they can also track current recalls on the CPSC website.

If you would like to learn more about how to track the safety of toys or other products for children and babies and how to get help if a child gets hurt or dies, please feel free to visit the defective product page of our Connecticut personal injury website.
