It’s a must to follow these tips when driving in the snow

As a resident of Connecticut, you know that the winter months will bring plenty of snow to the area.

While some people enjoy this weather, most realize one thing to be true: Snow increases the likelihood of being part of a motor vehicle accident.

If you find yourself driving in the snow, there are a few tips you can follow to improve your safety:

  • Slow down. If you do nothing else, make sure you follow this tip. You don’t want to drive at a dangerously slow speed, but you should definitely back off a bit.
  • Accelerate and decelerate slowly. When you apply the gas too fast, it increases the odds of slipping. The same holds true if you slam on your brakes.
  • Don’t stop when traveling uphill. This may not be a big deal if there is only a little bit of snow on the ground, but slippery conditions can make it a challenge to regain your momentum after coming to a complete stop.
  • Watch out for other drivers. Even if you understand the risks of driving in inclement weather, it doesn’t mean that others are taking the same level of caution. If you see someone driving too fast, leave plenty of space between your vehicle and theirs.

Along with the above, there’s one last safety tip to follow: Stay home if you don’t like what you see on the roads. Even though this may mean adjusting your schedule, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

If you are part of a motor vehicle accident, move your vehicle to the side of the road, call 911, and stay where you are until help arrives at the scene.

You can rely on police to take control. You can also rely on an ambulance to provide you with the medical care you require.

Once you’re on your way to making a recovery, you can learn more about the cause of the accident and your legal rights. You may soon find that the other party was responsible for the crash.
