Connecticut car crash causes power outages, school delays

A car crash can sometimes cause a chain reaction that can have unexpected and far-reaching effects. On Friday morning, three public schools in Wallingford, Connecticut, a middle school and two elementary schools, experienced a delayed start of three hours because a car accident in the vicinity took down a utility pole, causing a power outage.

At this time, few details are available regarding the crash. It is unclear whether the crash involved only one vehicle or if there were others. It is known that one vehicle struck a utility pole, causing it to fail and resulting in a power outage. The crash also resulted in one injury requiring hospitalization, though there is no information available as to the extent of the injuries or the individual's current condition. The accident occurred Friday morning in Wallingford at the intersection of Main Street and Church Street.

Altogether, three Wallingford public schools closed temporarily due to the power outage resulting from the crash: James H. Moran Middle School, Mary G. Fritz Elementary School and Highland Elementary School. The school district informed parents, students and staff of the delay with a notice on its website.

In addition to the power outage, the accident also caused the intersection to close down temporarily. Restoration of power and reopening the road took place within a matter of hours following the accident.

Some results of a car accident may be obvious in the immediate aftermath, while others may be unforeseen and not manifest within the moment. Those who have experienced the far-reaching effects may find it helpful to consult an attorney.
