The dangers of defective electronics

Certain residents in Connecticut may have received defective products before. While this can be annoying, it’s not often harmful. However, that isn’t necessarily the case when it comes to defective electronics.

According to Platinum Electricians, defective electrical wires are the number one issue when it comes to electrical hazards in the home. Electrical wires can arrive damaged when a person orders any device that needs to be plugged in. It may be difficult to detect that something is wrong with the wire at first. Damage may not be apparent until it has already been placed in an outlet, causing an electrical short. Wire damage that is easy to notice usually involves the protective outer layer being torn or the inner wiring poking through. However, a wire can be damaged simply by being pinched or bent the wrong way, and improper or loose connections can be a manufacturing error.

FindLaw highlights the different types of product defects that can be found in electrical appliances. This includes manufacturing, design, and warnings. For example, a product could have incorrect labels, leading to the customer performing dangerous tasks with their electrical appliance that they thought were safe. If the design is flawed, that means something dangerous could happen even if the customer is using the item as intended. Manufacturing defects are a little more difficult to pinpoint since they can be more random, whereas design flaws will appear in every version of the product. They tend to result in a high level of accidents and can lead to recalls.

When working with electricity, safety is always of utmost concern. Those who have been injured in an electrical accident due to a defective appliance or tool may wish to pursue their legal options, as handling electrical injury can be a costly and long recovery.
